To get over my depression, I entered a pirate art contest on deviantart. This is what happened:
My dad had a stroke on Tuesday and they're taking him off life support now.
It feels like my heart fell out.

One of my closest, dearest friends recently had an accident around
Father's day. She was riding her motorcycle and a car crossed the
centre line and hit her head on. There is extensive nerve damage in
her left leg and her pelvis is mostly shattered. This is the first
I've heard of it, because she's just now been moved from a hospital bed
to a nursing home. She called a mutual friend very early this morning,
and he, bless him, left me a message on myspace as soon as he got off
the phone with her. She said that she has been trying to get my number
off of people I haven't seen in forever so she could contact me. We've
always scolded her about those damned bikes, but she's so damned head
strong and...and so Zoe! I didn't know anything was wrong because Zoe
is such a free spirit, constantly moving her vibrant self from place to
place. But she always faithfully comes back right when you need her.
And now she needs all of her friends and I feel like I can't be there.
It makes me wish I'd never left Seattle, that I'd stayed in closer
contact. My foundations feel more than shaken, but I am clinging to
the miracle that she survived. Broken and bruised, but still alive.
It is 12:51 am and I am hand-stitching a little flannel kimono for a co-worker's baby shower. It's in tan flannel and will be edged in denim-blue bias tape with some red bandanna accents (the baby's stuff is going to be all in Old West type gear). After that, I'm going to appliqué a little felt sheriff's badge to the front.
I don't think I cut it right, but at least my top-stitching has improved since high school.
So we got a new vacuum cleaner today. It's a Eureka Optima, fondly re-named Optimus Prime. Our little stick vacuum wasn't doing the trick, and believe me, it was time. So I looked at the local places to see what the cheapest options were, and then did some 'net research and found out that this is actually the perfect solution for our little place. I like it. I like it a lot.
Gay marriage was just legalised in CA by the state supreme court.
Life is beautiful.
