Surprisingly, The Cure's Disintegration is a great ablum to listen to on repeat while cleaning.
Over the course of the day, I have endeavoured to not only do the dishes, but clean and organize our kitchen from top to bottom. It looks amazing. I went out and bought heavy-duty s-hooks to hang our pots and pans from the sides of our steel pantry shelving. That worked brilliantly, and freed up a lot of shelf-space for our many spices and teas. Being cheap, I took from our collection of clear-headed thumb tacks and made a little space on the wall next to the stove for our cooking utensils to hang. It looks rather neat in there now--much more like the cool kitchen we were going for. Now all I have to do is tidy up the prep-table and febreeze the floor (our kitchen is carpeted and came with its own unique smell, ew).
Next: the bathroom.
Joy. lol
So, instead of a tree this year, we're doing a Christmas garland above the archway leading to our 'bedroom'. We just picked up the rest of the ornaments we wanted for it, some lights, and a string of tiny silver bells to go with it. In short, it looks amazing. I like it much better than any Christmas tree I've ever had. And since we're in a small apartment, it's definitely more practical.
We also managed to pick up some silverware today. Tomorrow we get the dinnerware Ryan's been lusting after, and some storage to get all our crafty things out of the way. So tonight we're going to be feasting on chicken cordon bleu with nice silver and plastic dishes, lol.
Pictures to come when I can once again stand up. :(
It is totally possible to bathe if you don't own (read: forgot to pack) towels. I'm mostly dry and hunkered down in bed for a while till I'm fully dry. It's warm and full of comf'.
Also, everyone who has never heard of Joe Richardson needs to go get the new Recoil album, subHuman, and Joe's album Somhelgisfel. I'm willing to share a song or two for those who want a listen, but I highly suggest buying it if you like the samples. Joe's an awesome southern-based blues musician whose work reaches above and beyond any stereotype you've ever heard come out of that genre. The songs are completely accessible no matter what your tastes or age group.
Can we say that Crystal has a musical crush? Oh heck yeah!!
We're here, mostly moved in. We just got back from doing some light grocery shopping, during which we both have decided to move along to soy milk rather than cow milk. I feel accomplished, and though we may not have more than $60 between now and Friday, I really don't care.
We have our own apartment. We're doing really well. This can only get better.
APARTMENT!
I like it. It's "charmingly useless" as I've been saying to all of the people who've asked me. Basically, the water runs, the utilities are paid for, and I really don't care that there is no closet space or shelving. I'm feeling very Zen about it. The woman who showed us the place was INCREDIBLY rude. I mean, I have never met someone so off-putting in my life. She ushered us upstairs and stood in the middle of the room tapping her foot the second we got in there. We were there for a total of three minutes and she told us nothing about the place and didn't actually answer any questions we had. After we sign up for the place and put our money down, I am going to talk to whoever is her boss and complain. Because, wow.
So, I would go into detail about the place, but I'll just give you the basics:
-there are no closets
-or shelves
-or counters
-or a fridge
And this is sort of the layout (from memory):
We're going to view the studio today at 2:00. According to the woman on the phone, the people in line before us wanted to rent, but they don't qualify because of their credit history. This makes me slightly nervous because I know mine isn't great, Ryan's is ok, and I really have no idea how my grandfather's--who cosigned for us--is. We'll just have to wait and see, though.
I think I can breathe easily for once. You know, aside from my health (which keeps taking even deeper plunges).
We're almost into an apartment. Ryan has a really well-paying job (that I got him, thank you very much) and I have my own job which supplements our (soon to be) mutual savings. I feel like a real adult. You know, because I am. At 22 I ought to be, at least.
So, we have our rent + deposit + a few hundred dollars, then Ryan gets paid this next Friday and, assuming we're going to have one place or the other by then, we're buying a table that we saw in a furniture store. It's wrought iron with slate tiles and it is dirt cheap. It's been knocked down from over a thousand to $200, and Ryan's going to try and haggle them down to $150.
I've noticed something about the town: the economy is shit. These furniture places are selling locally-manufactured, beautiful (for the most part) pieces, and they are cheap. The rent is really inexpensive. Ryan's bakery seems to be one of the few truly thriving businesses out there.
Because, dude, leather sofas for between $300 and $900 dollars? Wow.
