To get over my depression, I entered a pirate art contest on deviantart. This is what happened:
I applied to join a really nice, popular (but v. high quality) illustration club on dA after I finished and submitted my piece yesterday. I have yet to hear back, but keep your fingers crossed for me.
This month (May) the theme is 'Labyrinth'
It made me giggle.
Here is the illustration I drew inspired by the challenge, rather than a submission, because as of yet, I am not a member:
Well, the third one is finally up. I think I would have finished sooner if I hadn't been so busy with teh werkens.

I said in the deviation comments, I'm not happy with the apples. I
think they're ok, but I couldn't quite execute what I wanted with
them. I'm not exactly sure how to get what's in my head into visual
form quite yet, but I didn't want to let them hold me back. Perhaps
I'll edit it later with something that pleases me better.
Last week was a 50% off week, so I bought this book I'd been interested in for a while called Fitted Knits by Stephanie Japel (who is, interestingly, a geologist focusing on mineral physics as her day job...go fig). So I'm knitting a sweater, and hopefully, if I play my cards right, it will look something like this:
I'm not doing blue and pink, but sage and dark olive for the ribbing.
Knitting has seriously been keeping me sane the last few days, and all I could think about at work today was getting home to knit some more. I'm really proud of how even my stitches are, and how nicely I picked up how to do increases and things... So, I pick up my knitting as soon as I get home and find out that Paris has gnawed my working yarn in half. I almost had a panic attack, but picked up The Knitting Answer Book, which Ryan bought me, and read up on how to fix it. Thankfully, I can, it'll just take some effort on my part.
And this post is jumbled because I'm half asleep and keep losing my train of thought. G'night.
I'm writing a story. It's not going to be book-length, really, unless you want a very short book. I'm shooting for ten pages, and if I get more, then sweet. If not, I figure it's good for a first go, and this is really to build my confidence and work on congruency of style and technique than anything else. Oh, and I'm having a lot of fun.
The story is being written out of order, middle to end, then I'll do the beginning. I went back and added text to the first illustration, and am continuing the story from there:
So, I'm just going to start doing it. Forget insecurity; forget lack of real means. I want to do it, and I'm going to.
Below is my first one. It's not perfect, but I think it's great. It was an experiment with a lot of things and I adore it. I'm going to be trying on different styles until I finally develop my own (something I haven't been able to do with any art medium [photography excluded] before).
