Since Ryan and I are such computer people, we're making the main room of our house mostly into one big computer space. Sure we have a TV, but we rarely use it. We also can't afford a couch, so we're just taking up the extra space with separate computer tables.
He is at work, so he doesn't know this yet, but I went to Michaels and bought a bunch of cork squares to make us our own bulletin spaces on the wall behind each of our desks. I bought two packs, which means four squares (about 1ft sq) and am painting them alternating light grey and dark. I might have to get more paint tomorrow because boy does cork soak up liquid, lol! I bought some magnetic paint, too, but a) I don't know that it'll work on the cork, and b) I don't know about having it that close to the computers.... I think I'll return it tomorrow.
I'm also itching to try this idea of pouring enamel paint into soda bottles to create funky little flower vases. I might get some of that tomorrow as well, because that'd be lots of fun.
I would say pics to come, but I broke my little digicam. Ryan said we can probably buy my expensive one I've been wanting this payday if we have enough cash after paying bills and putting money into savings.
Last week was a 50% off week, so I bought this book I'd been interested in for a while called Fitted Knits by Stephanie Japel (who is, interestingly, a geologist focusing on mineral physics as her day job...go fig). So I'm knitting a sweater, and hopefully, if I play my cards right, it will look something like this:
I'm not doing blue and pink, but sage and dark olive for the ribbing.
Knitting has seriously been keeping me sane the last few days, and all I could think about at work today was getting home to knit some more. I'm really proud of how even my stitches are, and how nicely I picked up how to do increases and things... So, I pick up my knitting as soon as I get home and find out that Paris has gnawed my working yarn in half. I almost had a panic attack, but picked up The Knitting Answer Book, which Ryan bought me, and read up on how to fix it. Thankfully, I can, it'll just take some effort on my part.
And this post is jumbled because I'm half asleep and keep losing my train of thought. G'night.
Ok, so I'm neither Catholic nor religious in any way, but I've always been fascinated by rosaries. I used to be moderately obsessed with counting, and running a string of beads through my fingers and ticking each off in my head was slightly cathartic. I can see how the act of praying with a rosary would have the same comforting, structured effect.
I once made a rosary to go along with my garb at Ren Fair (yeah, I was one of THOSE once) and unfortunately it's at my mother's house and I'll probably never see it again. It was done with tiny seed pearls and larger black pearls, with a natural pearl cross pendant.
I was thinking about doing another one for myself, and decided to put the offer out there for people who might want a hand-made one for themselves. I can find a variety of materials and stone colours, but am limited by what we have on stock, so I'll let you know about options. Also, I absolutely refuse to use cheepy plastic crapola beads, so it'll be a bit pricey (but no more than $30, I think. I'll have to do the maths). If you're interested, send me a private message on here and I'll let you know if/when I can make it. For ease of transaction, anything I sell will be done through etsy.com. I'll hold specific ones for you by name unless you change your mind or don't like the pictures of the finished product.
What's the last thing you crafted, constructed or created yourself?
Uhm...that would have to be the gnarly (in a good way!) painting I did for my final quarter of British Literature. We ended on Jamaica Kincaid's At the Bottom of the River, and I did a painting of one of her vignettes contained therein. I need to find a good picture to post here.
